One of the most unknown but most impactful saviors of independent fact-driven publishers is the Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF). Its investments secure the work of media outlets reaching 255 million people globally. The MDIF is a fascinating complementary tool to "classical" project-based support; it helped, for instance, daily Gazeta Wyborcza to survive the PIS-government in Poland. The talk will introduce MDIF, showcase its goals and investments - and explains the new strategy focusing on a broad understanding of public interest information. MDIF-representative Max von Abendroth will discuss with Lutz Kinkel before opening the talk to the audience.
