In this era of mis and disinformation, a decline of trust in public institutions and the vital need for truth and transparency, the mandate for newsrooms to connect with communities through journalism presents us with a vibrant and exciting opportunity. The Bureau has a history of innovation in the Local journalism space. We piloted our first ever community-led series, hired the first ever community organiser in British Journalism and this year launched a new Storyhub in partnership with a local radio station, focussing on skills and participatory storytelling in Bradford, a city that faces serious challenges of inequality and poverty - and where there is low skill and low wage economy, some of the lowest levels of cultural investment per capita, low opportunity and low social mobility. Our panel conversation aims to open up the conversation about reimagining local journalism through communities, partnerships and organising.
