Mentoring with Media Women

Join us for one of our sessions:

The program will be held in English and German.

We are here to answer your questions in a one-on-one deep talk. Are you curious about career paths in journalism, handling difficult situations in daily work, making critical decisions, or overcoming seemingly insurmountable hurdles? Talk to us! We offer a safe space where you can ask anything.

This initiative was born from a discussion among women who wished they had access to a format like this 20 years ago — and 10 years ago, 5 years ago, and even today. We come from diverse areas of journalism — magazines, agencies, regional news, TV, both employed and freelance. We bring management experience and a wealth of knowledge from situations where we sought advice from colleagues, mentors, and bosses. Seeking guidance is always a step toward finding solutions.

And speaking of networks: we are launching something new at #bff24: INNEN - the network for media women. Because helping, connecting, and supporting shouldn't end after the festival. Stay tuned — and join us from the beginning!

TV studio of the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences

In the TV news studio, visitors can try their hand at presenting the news. Those interested receive a brief introduction to news presenting and familiarize themselves with the script. The next step is the live experience: the person stands in front of a green screen and reads a short news report from the teleprompter as soon as the camera’s red light turns on. The technology then overlays a virtual news studio onto the recording. All visitors receive a USB stick with their performance as a souvenir.

Date: 05. Oktober, 10 - 16 Uhr

Location: Haus der Bildung, Raum 1.58

b° future festival Exhibitions

Tropic Ice - Dialogue Between Places Affected by Climate Change

The long-term project "Tropic Ice" by laif photographer Barbara Dombrowski highlights the impact of human-induced climate change and its effects on people across the globe. Over the course of ten years, she visited climate-critical locations on five continents, capturing the lives of indigenous peoples navigating the tension between tradition and modernity. The photographs do not depict catastrophes but rather the people themselves, who maintain a close connection to nature. These portraits are displayed as large-format banners in exhibitions, powerfully illustrating the link between these communities and the urgency of the climate crisis.

The images will be on display at Münsterplatz throughout the festival and will be accessible without a ticket.

Oh PandeMio

This work by artist Mareike Mohr is a spatial installation in the form of a giant leporello titled “Oh PandeMio.” Through this piece, she explores the emotional vulnerability and susceptibility of people to media influence, particularly during the coronavirus pandemic. She is intrigued by the connection between words and the emotions they evoke, such as fear, which can manifest in a heightened heartbeat. The hand-printed paper leporello features an artistic interpretation of more than 90 linguistic expressions that were circulated in the press during the pandemic.

Location: Haus der Bildung

Atlas of Globalization: The World in Maps and Graphics

This exhibition was created in collaboration with the Journalism Festival Innsbruck and Le Monde diplomatique and will be showcased at the b°future Festival 2024. The planet is reaching its limits, new viruses are paralyzing countries, and the gap between rich and poor is widening. Since the publication of the first “Atlas of Globalization” in 2003, Le Monde diplomatique has set new standards in journalistic cartography. The atlas clearly illustrates what globalization means for mobility, political participation, and social progress. Now, after eight editions and more than 20 years, the exhibition “Unequal World” presents the latest in graphic storytelling.

Exhibition “FÜR ALLE! DEMOKRATIE NEU GESTALTEN” at the Bundeskunsthalle

Does democracy need an update? Have we been too complacent, assuming nothing can challenge our democratic systems? Democracy is a construct, and like any design, it can be reimagined. At its core, democracy is about the distribution of power. From the perspective of art, architecture, and design as transformative forces, the exhibition explores the growing social demand for greater participation, alongside the strengths and shortcomings of traditional democratic forms. It also invites speculation: What might the democracy of tomorrow look like?
