Your role

Join us for the fourth edition of the b° future festival from October 1–3 and experience Europe’s festival for journalism and constructive dialogue from the inside.

You will support the festival team on one of the three festival days for up to nine hours. In return, you will receive free access to all festival events. During your shift, you will represent the festival and serve as a point of contact for participants as well as speakers.

Below you can learn more about the different volunteer roles and the skills required for each area.

Hospitality

As a hospitality volunteer, you are one of the faces of b° future and will work in various roles involving direct contact with visitors.

“Where can I find the restroom?” “What time does the session start?” “How do I connect to the Wi-Fi?” At the Information Point and across our festival venues, you will be the first point of contact for guests attending the b° future festival.

If you enjoy interacting with people, like helping others and are happy to answer questions with patience and enthusiasm, this role could be a great fit for you. Since many of our guests come from different countries, good English skills are essential.

Stage assistant

As a stage assistant, you will primarily support our speakers and help ensure that everything runs smoothly around the stage. But you will also be ready to jump in wherever help is needed. Is there not enough drinking water available backstage? Has a speaker not yet arrived at the correct stage? Time to step in!

For this role, you should have good English language skills, remain calm under pressure, and enjoy interacting with people in a friendly and professional manner.

Floater

As a floater, spontaneity and flexibility are the most important qualities for this role. You will support the festival wherever help is needed and step in when other team members are unavailable. This could mean assisting at accreditation or in guest services, but it may also involve more hands-on physical tasks.

At the same time, be prepared for periods when there is little or nothing to do at all — every shift is different, so expect the unexpected!

You should wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes (if possible, avoid sneakers, trainers, or lightweight fabric shoes).

Technical support

As a member of the technical support team, you will assist us in all technical areas of the b° future festival. While all of our venues are equipped with basic technical infrastructure, technical issues can arise at any time and often need to be resolved quickly to avoid delays in the programme.

Therefore, in addition to having an interest in technology and a willingness to learn, you should be prepared for some physical work as part of the role.

You should wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes (if possible, avoid sneakers, trainers, or lightweight fabric shoes).
