I was graduated from Yale College and Yale Law School, clerked for a federal judge, and practiced First Amendment and civil rights law as well as commercial litigation in a large law firm for many years. In 2020, I became the founding director of the First Amendment Clinic at SMU Dedman School of Law in Dallas. Each year, we provide 16 - 10 law students the opportunity to work with clients on cases that advance and defend the First Amendment rights of speech, press, assembly, and petition. We represent both journalists and citizens in bringing federal civil rights claims and defending against defamation claims. We also handle a wide range of matters where our clients seek to obtain government records to increase government transparency.
