Keri Mitchell has spent her career as a civic and community journalist, 20 of them in Dallas, Texas. She launched the nonprofit newsroom Dallas Free Press in early 2020 with the belief that all neighborhoods deserve reporting and storytelling that values their community and holds leaders accountable. Dallas Free Press focuses community journalism efforts in South Dallas and West Dallas, including student journalists they teach at local high schools and citizen journalists they train to be Documenters at public meetings. Dallas Free Press was named a 2024 "INNovator" by the Institute for Nonprofit News, and this year is a finalist for Local Independent Online News (LION) Publishers' financial health and product of the year awards.
