Andrea Schafarczyk is WDR's cross-media programme director for North Rhine-Westphalia, knowledge and culture. Her responsibilities include WDR's regional programmes with eleven regional studios, the knowledge, business and culture departments, as well as the six WDR radio stations and four music ensembles. Before Andrea Schafarczyk joined WDR as director in 2022, she was responsible for numerous change projects at Hessischer Rundfunk as its cross-media editor-in-chief. From 2015 to 2020, as editor-in-chief at Radio Bremen, she oversaw the reorganisation of regional reporting, the establishment of the newsroom and the relaunch of the online presence, among other things. The graduate journalist, who hails from Essen, has her journalistic roots at WDR. During and after her studies at the University of Dortmund, she worked for WDR for 16 years – including as head of 1LIVE, head of the station's music and events editorial department, consultant, editor and reporter.
