Listening is one of the most important qualities of a journalist. But how do you listen? Do you only hear what you want to hear? Or are you open to new perspectives? De Publiekstreffer’s Walk & Listen is an exercise based on Otto Scharmer’s Theory U, and focuses on listening without an agenda and being fully present in the moment. Central to this is the idea that deep listening can create new insights and connection. Walking ensures that you do not constantly pick up on non-verbal signals from your conversation partner, which can make it easier for both parties to share personal stories and experiences. About de Publiekstreffer De Publiekstreffer helps journalists engage in conversation with people who do not recognize themselves in the news. We do this by combining journalism with psychology. We bring citizens and newsrooms together during meetings and offer practical tools to make genuine contact. This creates stories that are not just made ‘about’ people, but ‘together’ with them.
