Hateful debates, polarisation, and growing media alienation: How can journalism regain trust, reconnect with audiences, and contribute to a healthier culture of public discourse? Constructive dialogue is a key skill – but how can it be more effectively applied in journalism? What practical skills, tools and techniques truly make a difference? That’s exactly what this Deep Dive explores. In times of conflict, it’s not talking that matters most – it’s listening. In this workshop, you’ll learn how active listening works and how asking better questions can lead to deeper insights, whether during research or in interviews. Peter Lindner and Anja von Cysewski will also show what journalism can learn from other professions – such as mediation – and introduce innovative, dialogue-based talk formats and discourse projects. You’ll gain a hands-on understanding of how journalists can act as moderators of public conversation and, in doing so, create value for audiences, the media, and democracy alike.
