Mike Farjam is a senior research fellow at the University of Hamburg and conducts research at the intersection of communication studies and computational social science. His work focuses on how social and political polarization arises, how it is portrayed in the media, and what effects different forms of reporting have on attitudes and behavior. To this end, he combines large-scale analyses of news and social media with experimental methods. Currently, as part of the research project “Media and Polarization,” he is investigating how the media portray social conflicts and polarization, how this coverage changes over time, and what impact it has on its audience.
