As founding director, Maria Exner is responsible for the development and direction of Publix, Haus für Journalismus & Öffentlichkeit in Berlin. Most recently, she was editor-in-chief of ZEITmagazin. In 2021, she was one of the magazine editors-in-chief of the year. Before that, she developed innovative digital and civil society-oriented projects as deputy editor-in-chief of ZEIT ONLINE. In spring 2023, she researched the future of the public sphere and the impact of digital platforms on journalism and democracy as a Thomas Mann Fellow in Los Angeles. Maria Exner is a member of the ‘Zukunftsrat’ of the Broadcasting Commission of the Federal States, an advisory body for the future of public service broadcasting.
