Kristian van Bentem has been working as an editor at the Westfälische Nachrichten (Aschendorff Medien) since 1996 and has served as chairman of the works council since 2018. He is passionate about local journalism. “Because it can make a difference right where people’s daily lives unfold.” In the German Journalists’ Association, where he serves as vice chair of the North Rhine-Westphalia regional chapter and the Federal Committee on Daily Newspapers, he focuses, among other things, on how local journalism –as an indispensable pillar of our democracy – can be preserved.
