Award-winning filmmaker Johan von Mirbach came to film via radio. He studied Latin American studies in Cologne and Buenos Aires. This was followed by a traineeship at a television production company. Johan von Mirbach helped to build up the video departments of Deutsche Welle (DW) in Bonn as an external project manager. As a director, he has made films such as #dieselgate, Smoke & Fumes, or Kryptoqueen. His work has received several awards. He also oversees the format "The 77 Percent" for young Africans at DW. The filmmaker also works in front of the camera as a reporter and presenter.
