Simone Mergen deals with audience-oriented history communication in museums. Since 2022, she has headed the education and visitor service department at the House of History of the Federal Republic of Germany and is an expert in exhibition didactics, educational programs and audience research. She led the complete redesign of the museum’s permanent exhibition.
She previously worked in various positions at the Jewish Museum Frankfurt am Main, the State Museum Koblenz and the NS Documentation Center Cologne. As a lecturer at the Institute of History at the University of Cologne, chairwoman of the State Association of Museum Education in North Rhine-Westphalia as well as the Education Working Group of the German Museum Association and as co-founder of the Visitor Research Network, she is committed to shaping the museums of the future. She studied history and German at the University of Bonn.
