Elisabeth Niejahr started her career at the Bonn office of DER SPIEGEL, covering politics until the German government moved to Berlin in 1999. She then moved on the German weekly DIE ZEIT, where she worked in different positions for 18 years, and was also chief correspondent of the business magazine WirtschaftsWoche. A trained economist Elisabeth has always enjoyed writing about business, social policy and macroeconomic issues but also has a deep understanding of the political system and has been a guest on many national TV shows for years. In 2020 Elisabeth changed sides and became managing director oft the Hertie Foundation's programs for strengthening democracy, leading a team 27 people. She initiated various nationwide and international projects which deal with the political system, youth participation but also disinformation und how the business world can help to enhance media literacy. Elisabeth is author and co-aouthor of five books and currently on sabbatical for the next on.
