Christine Badke began her journalistic career in local journalism and learned firsthand how important proximity, trust, and reliability are to the relationship between the editorial team and the audience. In leadership roles at the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger” — both in the newsroom and in editorial development — she worked on user-oriented offerings as well as new ways of engaging, involving, and building loyalty among readers. A key focus of her work is the question of how independent journalism can remain relevant — both for democratic discourse and for the success that secures the future of journalism. In training programs such as the b°local Innovation Program, she helps newsrooms integrate innovation into their daily work and view trust, diversity of perspectives, and a focus on solutions as strategic resources. As Deputy Director of Innovation and Dialogue at the Bonn Institute, she combines these experiences with the goal of further developing journalism as a space for exchange and understanding.
